Sword of the Spirit

God only gave us one offensive weapon in the spiritual armor: the sword of the Spirit, God’s Word. But this doesn’t mean that we are vulnerable in the battlefield. The Word of the Lord has the ability to penetrate self-willed human hearts, to open our eyes to the truth of the Lord, and to give us an opportunity to receive the gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. In addition, it can also serve as a defensive piece. God's Word can protect us from the lies of the devil, it can also counter attacks any evil schemes, just like when Jesus was tested in the wilderness by Satan (Matthew 4).
In order to wield the sword of the spirit offensively and defensively, we need to make sure that we truly understand the original context of passages and not take portions of Scripture out of context.
